Air Seychelles introduces Takamaka Iconic Seychelles rum on flights
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, has introduced a new selection of beverages on board its flights that includes the popular Takamaka Dark Rum, as well as internationally-acclaimed wines and champagne.
Produced in the south of Mahé at La Plaine St Andre, a national heritage site, the popular island rum is characterised by sweet notes of caramel and vanilla and is now available in Business Class and it will be offered in Economy Class from 1 December 2015.
Roy Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said: “Sampling the local dishes and drinks of Seychelles is a great way of experiencing its unique culture, which is why we are delighted that guests can now enjoy a glass of Takamaka rum on board our flights.
“Made to exacting standards and with heaps of passion, 'Takamaka' evokes the rum traditions of Seychelles and is much-loved by residents and visitors alike, many of whom take a bottle home as a souvenir.
“Takamaka Rum is a well-recognised Seychelles brand and we are happy to be associated with it as the national airline.”
In addition to local rum, Air Seychelles’ new beverage offering includes the Charles de Cazanove tête de cuvée champagne from France, which is exclusive to Business Class and has been scored 92 points by Wine Spectator, a leading wine publication with an audience of more than three million readers.
The wine cellar on board Air Seychelles flights features several new selections too, which were picked out by an in-house team who worked closely with a recognised French sommelier and wine consultant, Francois Derrien, Managing Partner at Archipelago Wine and Spirits based in Seychelles.
The list includes prize-winning Chilean chardonnay Marques de Casa Concha, rated by spirits and wine magazine Decanter as one of the best chardonnays in the world, and the Kaiken Ultra Malbec, a highly acclaimed red wine from Argentina that picked up 94 points from influential wine critic James Suckling following a tasting tour in the region.

“Air Seychelles worked closely with local sommelier, Francois Derrien to ensure these new wines complement our popular Seychellois-inspired menu, an important hallmark of our service.
