Air Seychelles promotes Twin Otter pilot to Captain
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, today promoted a pilot on its domestic operations to the rank of Captain.
Captain Aubrey Quatre, who has been flying with Air Seychelles for three years, was presented with his commander’s bars in a ceremony at the airline’s headquarters in Anse des Genêts.
The new Twin Otter Captain was promoted after successfully completing a rigorous Command Upgrade Program that includes a series of refresher courses on emergency procedures, technical data, Crew Resource Management (CRM), leadership skills and decision-making.
Manoj Papa, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said: “The rank of Captain symbolizes the highest level of skill and knowledge acquisition in aviation. It takes a lot of hard work and I am delighted to congratulate Aubrey on his achievement.
“As an employer of choice, Air Seychelles is proud to offer staff opportunities for growth, development and career progression. This includes providing world-class training for our pilots, who are taught by experienced local instructors and have access to modern training facilities in Abu Dhabi that are run by our partner Etihad Airways.”
Aubrey Quatre, 26, lives in Ma Constance and has been flying with Air Seychelles since 2012. He completed secondary school studies at the English River School, before taking A-Level examinations at the School of Advanced Level Studies. After graduating, he worked as an Assistant Air Traffic Controller at the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority for two years. In 2010, Aubrey enrolled at the 43rd Air School in South Africa to pursue his dream of becoming a pilot, where he undertook an intensive aviation course before applying for a position at Air Seychelles.
Captain Quatre said: “I have worked very hard to become a Captain and can say that one of my childhood dreams has come true. It’s a very proud day for me and I would like to extend my gratitude to my colleagues at Air Seychelles for the opportunities and training I have received. I look forward to gaining more flying experience and progressing to the Airbus fleet in due course.”
In August 2015, Air Seychelles will take delivery of a modern DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 aircraft to accommodate the growth in demand for scheduled and charter inter-island services, as well as boost trade and tourism in the archipelago.
The airline currently employs 54 Seychellois pilots: 28 in its domestic operations and 26 in its international operations.
