Air Seychelles takes home four prestigious World Travel Awards including ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline’
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, has been awarded four prestigious accolades at the 2016 World Travel Awards, including the title of “Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline” for the second year running.
In addition to winning the coveted title, the Seychelles-based airline was presented with awards for “Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline – Business Class”, “Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline – Economy Class” and “Indian Ocean’s Leading Cabin Crew”.
Air Seychelles picked up the awards at a red carpet ceremony that was held yesterday on the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar and attended by Roy Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer and the airline’s senior management team.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to recognise and reward excellence in the travel trade and its winners are decided through a global voting system by more than 600,000 industry professionals and consumers.
Congratulating on the national airline’s success, Minister Morgan said: “Winning four highly-prized accolades at this year’s World Travel Awards, and beating our record of three in 2015, is an incredible achievement for Air Seychelles that demonstrates its commitment to being the best airline in the region.
“This accomplishment caps off a period of great growth at Air Seychelles that has seen it improve many aspects of the travel experience, on both its international flights to Mahé and domestic island-hopping services.
“Air Seychelles continues to push the boundaries of what can be achieved by a boutique airline and by doing so, it is making a valuable contribution to our tourism-based economy.”
Roy Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said: “Taking home the title of Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline for the second consecutive year, along with three other fantastic accolades, was a very proud moment and clearly shows that our strategy of putting guests first is working.
“Over the past year, we have launched two popular long-haul services to Paris and Beijing, significantly strengthened our Indian Ocean network and continued to enhance our Seychelles-inspired inflight experience.
“It is especially satisfying to win the Indian Ocean’s Leading Economy Class award for the first time. Like our business cabins, our economy class offers comfortable seating on our Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, delicious menus showcasing our island cuisine, modern entertainment systems, as well as inflight internet and mobile connectivity.
“What makes our cabins really stand out, however, is our warm and friendly team of all-Seychellois cabin crew, who truly embody the creole spirit of Air Seychelles and have now won the Indian Ocean’s Leading Cabin Crew award for the third year in a row.
“Being recognised for these achievements by industry professionals is incredibly motivational and we look forward to building on our reputation as a leading airline in the coming years.”
Graham Cooke, Founder and President of the World Travel Awards, said: “The World Travel Awards has rewarded excellence in the travel industry for close to 23 years now, and in Air Seychelles we see all the qualities of an exceptional airline.
“Its innovative spirit and tireless drive has seen Air Seychelles rise quickly through the ranks to become a leading airline that proudly symbolizes the warm hospitality and joie de vivre of the Seychelles culture.”
